Dr. Gail Weingast; One of the Most-Skilled Is a Top Radiology Specialist

May 15, 2021
These days, those who know Dr. Gail Weingast know her best as a highly regarded radiology specialist at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut. In that hospital, she serves as the Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging and she has contributed mightily to her department’s status as one of the finest in the country. It’s no wonder; she has been at Backus Hospital for more than two decades and overall, she can boast of more than four decades of knowledge and experience as a doctor.

That said, while she is now in an important position in the medical community, her path to being one of the premiere radiologists in the country wasn't always a straight line. Not that she would change anything, of course, even if she could. Fact is, Dr. Gail Weingast values every aspect of her educational and career journey because it has made her who she is. It all started when Gail Weingast attended Jackson College, Tufts University, in Medford, Massachusetts and graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish. Obviously, if her goal was to be a great doctor, it wasn’t apparent at first.

However, she must have changed her mind at some point, because within a few years, she attended the Boston University School of Medicine, where she became Dr. Gail Weingast MD in 1976. Following medical school, Dr.Weingast did a pediatrics internship, a pediatric residency, and a radiology residency between 1976 and 1983, all at Colorado General Hospital in Denver. While there, she also completed a fellowship in the field of ultrasound. Dr. Gail Weingast then completed her post-graduate studies as a radiologist from 1983 to 1984 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, also in Denver. Following that, Dr. Gail Weingast worked at other hospitals in Colorado and New York, until she settled into her current hospital as a radiologist.
