Dr. Gail Weingast: Radiology Specialist

August 23, 2016
Over the course of many years, Dr. Gail Weingast, who is now a very prominent radiology specialist at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, has learned as much as she could and practiced successfully where she could, so that she could become the best physician possible. Currently, she is Backus Hospital’s Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging, where she oversees one of the best radiology departments in the country, something she has been able to do with her department in her two decades there.

Her career path was a bit different from many, although Dr. Weingast wouldn’t have done it any other way. It is her education and career experience that molded her into the prominent doctor she is today. When she started her career path, it wasn’t with medicine in mind. She started college in 1969, at Jackson College, Tufts University, in Medford, Massachusetts, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish.

It wasn’t long, however, before the medical field beckoned. She soon decided to attend the Boston University School of Medicine, and she became Gail Weingast MD in 1976. Following that, she completed a pediatrics internship from 1976-1977 at Colorado General Hospital in Denver, Colorado and then completed a pediatrics residency during the next two years. Dr. Weingast followed that experience with a residency in the field of radiology between 1980 and 1983, as well as a fellowship in ultrasound in 1983. She also completed a post-graduate degree as a radiologist in 1984 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, also in Denver.

Over the next 30 years or so, Dr. Gail Weingast worked at several other hospitals in Colorado and New York before settling into her current position at Backus Hospital. With so much knowledge and experience behind her, she has been able to guide her department to its current position as one of the premiere medical facilities in the country.
